Kahaani is an interesting thriller that keeps the audience glued to their seats from the start to finish. Though the knot of the story is taken from Angelina Jolie starrer 'Taking Lives', it is very much an original thriller movie that will appeal to everybody.
Sujoy Ghosh delivers a taut thriller aided by a superb screenplay written by him and Advaita Kala that hardly has any loose ends or plot holes. He builds up the tension right from the start and creates some solid characters along the way that help in adding the mystery or resolving clues and thus helping the story to move forward in a fast pace.
Vidya Balan is just brilliant and delivers yet another spell binding performance that needs to be celebrated. Along with her, the supporting cast too carries the film till the end. Parambrata Chattopadhyay as Rana is the pick of the lot and he has wonderfully underplayed the soft hearted sub inspector, who assists the protoganist. Other actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the IB hot headed officer - Khan, Saswata Chatterjee as Bob Biswas and the warmly smiling kid at the hotel are good too.
The backdrop of the story, Kolkata, is another character in the movie. Setu's camera beautifully captures the different facades of the city during the durga festival period. The smart editiing and apt background score deserve special mention.
Go for it - this is how thriller movies should be!
